The mechanic who stops to help strangers on Polk Street
Our story
About Embarcadero Automotive
We're a family-run repair shop in San Francisco, built on one idea: treat every car, and every customer, right. Ali, our owner and lead mechanic, still answers the call himself, once even stopping to help a stranded driver on Polk Street before she knew he owned the shop.
We work on everything from a Honda S2000 to a Cadillac, and we explain what's actually wrong in plain language. If a repair can wait, we'll tell you that too, instead of selling you something you don't need. We keep the shop clean and organized, because how we treat our tools reflects how we'll treat your car.
Customers who've been with us for years say the same thing: fair prices, fast turnarounds, and work we stand behind long after you've paid the bill.
- Owner-operated by Ali
- Never oversells repairs
- Works on all makes
- Clean, organized shop
What customers say
“This place is the best! I've been going to them for years and would recommend them without hesitation. Ali is super knowledgeable and is able to tell you the problem in ways a non-mechanic can understand. Hasan is honest, has never tried to sell me on something I don't need and even has encouraged me to wait on occasion. Their work is fast and more importantly they stand behind it.”
“My husband and I have had several of our cars worked on at this shop. We've brought them everything from small repair jobs to huge issues. They've taken the absolute best care of our cars and we trust their opinion and work.”
“My car stopped on Polk Street this morning and Ali asked if I needed help. Without hesitating he took care to protect my car and resolve the issue. Turns out he is the owner and we should all be so lucky to have this level of service, planned or unplanned.”
